Why not ask? If the parents had explained their financial situation to their daughter and kindly asked for help, maybe we would have gotten a different situation here. Instead, they completely skipped that conversation and disregarded their daughter's right to decide over her own money, as well as her privacy and autonomy.

The daughter is right to feel that this is unfair. Her frustration is valid because she might have been open to help, but only if she had been given the choice. The thing is, there was no choice; they treated her savings as something available by default, as if she had no say in how it should be used.

But she earned that money! And she was probably saving it for a purpose. For future plans, security, I don't know, personal goals??? All of that gets dismissed when treated as an available household fund.

Earning money requires personal effort, and it carries an intention behind it, even if it's not always shared out loud. Respecting that intention means respecting the person who made that effort. The daughter deserved the respect of being asked in the first place, but without clear communication, even the strongest family bonds can begin to feel strained.
